Future Talent & Recruitment for Small Businesses in Hull & East Yorkshire

Calling all small businesses!

Are you looking to recruit new talent? Are you unsure who to speak to with regards to building your business workforce? Would you like to know more about many different talent and recruitment pathways?

Then why not come and join the HEY Growth Hub and HEY Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) during Humber Business Week for a full overview of the region’s talent acquisition and business recruitment support opportunities that is available for small businesses across Hull and East Yorkshire to be able to grow their teams, develop new talent and future-proof their workforce.

Attendees will have the opportunity to discover how apprenticeships and industry placements can work for their business, along with other routes to local talent. Including: how changes to the New Growth and Skills Levy can support your business workforce along with the latest government back employer incentives as part of the “New Deal” for young people and Youth Jobs Guarantee.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with businesses, young talent, over a dozen local training providers and business support organisations that will be in attendance as part of the event’s exhibitor marketplace, including the Department for Work & Pensions, Skills Bootcamps Hull & East Yorkshire, the University of Hull, Hull College and Bishop Burton College.

Event Agenda

  • 11am – Hear from an employer and former apprentice – TBC
  • 11.30am – DROP IN SESSION – Understanding the different Talent and Recruitment Pathways for Small Businesses, Training Provider Marketplace, Employer/ Provider and Student Skills Showcase and ‘Reverse Job Fair’
  • Building Your Business Workforce – An overview of the following recruitment pathways, to include Apprenticeships, T Levels, Skills for Life Skills Bootcamp, Free Courses for Jobs, Sector Based working Academies (SWAP’s), Graduates Internships, Pre-Apprentice Programme, Study Programme, SEND Supported Internships, Log-On/Move-On Portal and more
  • Types of recruitment support available to the small business community to include: Workforce development and skills training information, advice and support available from HEY Growth Hub, Invest Hull and Invest East Yorkshire business Support Service.
  • Apprenticeships, apprenticeship funding, the apprenticeship growth and skills levy, and wider skills support funding.
  • Changes to the new growth and skills levy? What employers need to know? What business support incentives are available?
  • New Deal for young people – Youth Jobs Guarantee – A three-year support offer to employers (Learn about the latest steps in the Government’s commitment to ensuring every young person aged 16-24 has the opportunity to earn or learn).
  • How to access free DWP/Jobcentre recruitment support – Discuss recruitment options, including work trials and sector-based work academies. Leverage Jobcentre Plus’s network to reach candidates who are actively seeking employment.
  • Employers / Providers / Apprentices / Ambassador floor walkers
    Insights cross sector individuals offering a personal perspective on how apprenticeships and other skills pathways have supported their development and career

Event Eligibility

Any business from Hull & East Yorkshire with an interest in recruiting an apprentice or a trainee are welcome to attend this event.

This event is ideal for owners, leaders and managers of small businesses who are considering the recruitment of an apprentice, trainee t-level placement student or intern. This includes those who have previously explored the recruitment of an apprentice but did not proceed due to barriers faced.

It will be particularly useful for businesses that have not previously recruited an apprentice, trainee or intern, or who have not used their apprenticeship levy for workforce skills development.
